Cookie policy
How we use cookies and similar storage
periskop.ai uses two categories:
- Essential — needed for the site to work and to remember your cookie decision. Always on.
- Analytics — internal event analytics and (if configured) Google Analytics 4. Off by default. Only loads after you select Accept all in the cookie banner.
We don’t use cookies for advertising and we don’t use them to build profiles for third-party ad networks.
Essential cookies and storage
Essential storage is set regardless of your analytics choice because it’s what makes the consent banner remember your decision. The current essential entry is:
periskop_consent— stores whether you accepted or declined analytics, so we don’t re-ask on every page load. Written as both a first-party cookie (one year) andlocalStorage.
Analytics cookies and storage
Analytics is consent-gated. If you select Essential only, none of the analytics entries below are written to your device and the Google Analytics 4 script is not loaded.
When you select Accept all, we may set:
periskop_visitor_id— a random identifier (UUID) that lets us count returning visitors without a third-party tracker.periskop_session_id— a session-scoped random identifier used to group events from the same visit._gaand_ga_*— Google Analytics 4 identifiers, set only if a GA4 measurement ID is configured for this site. IP anonymisation is enabled.
Consent and cookie settings
On your first visit you’ll see a banner with two clear choices:
- Essential only — analytics scripts are not loaded, and analytics identifiers are not stored.
- Accept all — analytics scripts load and the analytics identifiers listed above may be set.
You can change your mind at any time. The Cookie settings button in the footer clears your stored decision and reopens the banner. The page reloads so the banner re-appears with the same options.
Known cookies and storage
The table below lists everything periskop.ai may store in your browser. Anything not listed here is not used by this site.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Party | Consent |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| periskop_consent | Cookie + localStorage | Remembers your cookie decision so we don't re-prompt on every page. | 1 year (cookie) / persistent (localStorage) | First-party | Always on |
| periskop_visitor_id | localStorage | Random visitor identifier for first-party analytics. | Persistent until you clear it | First-party | Required |
| periskop_session_id | sessionStorage | Groups events from the same visit (session-scoped). | Tab/session only | First-party | Required |
| _ga | Cookie | Google Analytics 4 — distinguish unique users. | Up to 2 years | Third-party (Google) | Required |
| _ga_<container-id> | Cookie | Google Analytics 4 — session state for the GA4 property. | Up to 2 years | Third-party (Google) | Required |
Third-party cookies
The only third-party cookies that may be set are Google Analytics 4 cookies — and only if (a) a GA4 measurement ID is configured for this site and (b) you have selected Accept all. We have IP anonymisation enabled for GA4. We do not allow Google Analytics data to be shared with Google’s advertising products from this site’s configuration.
We don’t embed third-party advertising pixels, social-media trackers, or session-replay tools.
How to manage your choices
- Use the Cookie settings button in the footer to clear your stored decision and reopen the banner.
- Clear cookies and site data for periskop.ai in your browser to remove everything we’ve stored.
- Most browsers let you block cookies or specific storage by default. That setting may also affect essential storage, which can mean the banner re-appears each visit.
- For Google Analytics specifically, Google publishes an opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Changes
When we add or remove a cookie or storage entry, we update the table above and bump the “Last updated” date.
